Thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard. These are my switch choices. They are considered to be the quiet switches. The brown switch has a tactical bump, while the red is smooth.

I guess my question is, of the 2 switch types which do you prefer.  Also which would be better for gaming.

These is the keyboards I am considering. They comes in both switch type.

I don't use a keyboard... I use a Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard and a Corsair M65 PRO RGB FPS Gaming Mouse:

I use a CM keyboard, seems pricey what your looking at. I buy last years model cause I wear them out. Cheaper, I buy a new one every year any way.

Do you really think that a keyboard switch type will improve your gaming skills (do you have any?) or your KDR?

Considering you wanted a forum specifically for people to talk about "Hardware", maybe don't shit on people when they want hardware advice?

Really I just want a lighted keyboard so I can play with the room lights off at night. I figured since I want that I may as well go mech as well. As far as the switches go, I need quiet so I don't disturb my neighbor at night, who works during the day . The walls are thin in these studio apartments and I can here him snoring so I figure he can hear my keyboard.

As far as skill goes, i'm old my skills are few and far between.

Oh and NTAK, thanks for another reply that has no bearing on my question.

I saw no advice. I think I should go to Toms and ask there.

Edit: I found my answer at Toms' Hardware. Thank you for responses. See you on the battlefield.

Have you tried a mechanical keyboard before? Just curious because if not, you might be saving some money over the good old membrane keyboards. Personally, I couldn't stand the pair of mechanical keyboards I tried. I vastly prefer the older membrane style. Just a thought!

I have a K55 Corsair and unless you're really into the clickity clackata of the keys, I'd highly recommend this one.

Twin you make a good point. No I have not owned a mechanical keyboard. I have always used membrane.

Cuban that is a nice looking keyboard. Unfortunately, it is too large for the area it would be placed in.

I think I will take a combination of your 2 suggestions and find a nice lighted membrane keyboard that will meet my needs. Thank You

Shitting on people, that’s funny coming from you...

Facts:

1.) I told him I don’t use a keyboard, and then shared what devices I do use while gaming.

2.) He responded with a little trash talk, which I can handle cuz I’m not a little snowflake.

3.) Then I trash talked him back (duh, it’s what we do here)

4.) Then you inserted yourself into our trash talk session.

Why don’t you run along and kick or ban players from the BF4 servers.

Well I made my decision and purchase. Checked reviews and they seemed to say good things. It is a SteelSeries. It is also a fairly new product. My mouse is a SteelSeries so I already have the software downloaded. Of course there could be updates.

My mouse is a SteelSeries Rival 300. Fallout 4 Edition. Got it for 26 dollars including shipping from Bethesda. Regular 300s where selling for 50 dollars at that time. It looks kind of funky. But it is a solid mouse.

steel series make great keyboards, including designing their own switch (made by kaihua, see here - http://www.pcgamer.com/be ... switches-for-gaming/ )
of the old style mech switches, brown type is my favorite, i also prefer ten-key-less to full size keyboards, i get much better ergonomics that way.
as for myself, i'm picking a logi g pro soon, romer-G switch and rgb! https://www.scorptec.com. ... cal/68524-920-008296 mainly for its short-throw (tm) actuation.

one could design a keyboard with magnets! used as switches. the switch could utilize the magnets in such a way as to provide a tactile feedback as well as the actual switching (creation of pulse to read).
piezo effect sensor could work in the same way as magnets.

as a side note, i've had a water logged ear for 3 days now, can someone make me an audio file (a song if you may) that uses low frequency (ultra?) sound to unclog it? in stereo, so that we can precisely target the blockage. kek

I've had membrane keyboards for many years. Those wore out fast. The response time of my mechanical keyboard is superior then the mechanical keyboards I had been using. The Mechanical is louder when in use. Unless there is a significant other trying to sleep in the same room, the noise issue is moot. Plus we are all wearing headphones no?
I have the Razer Black Widow Ultimate. Blue Back-lit keyboard. The lighted keys were a must have. I like to keep the room lighting low to minimize glare. The keyboard has more then paid for itself. Going on several years now and no issues. I can adjust the light intensity by 3X. Using FN+F12 buttons.

Another mechanical keyboard to consider is the Corsair Strafe gaming keyboard. I haven't used this keyboard as of yet. I picked it out of rewards catalog for 10 years service at JPMC to have as a backup when/ if the Razer keyboard dies. I took it out of the box, and the keys are noticeably quieter then those on the Razer Black Widow keyboard.

If I had the table space of the left side of my keyboard, I would definately try the Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard that NTAK uses.
Should not take too long to get used to. It is a Membrane gaming board.

have you ever tester de Black widow ultimate steatlh. A mechanical keyboard BUT the stroke on the keyboard are reduced by some hardware they have put into it. the ones i had in the past always made less noise than the usual mechanical keyboards.
