Anyone else pre-order DooM yet? I pre-ordered the collectors edition 30 minutes after it was announced

So fucking excited I nearly cream my pants thinking about it.

super exited too as i'm a huge fan of doom, hopefully it's got a decent multiplayer.

@Superhanssolo Bet I'm a bigger doom fan than you  (See my uncirculated NM Doom SNES)

that stuff is rarer than rocking horse shit, nice. i just like old school fps games (3D!) and i'm a forever massive fan of john carmac and his work while at id software, not to mention the magician like stuff he does for armadillo and oculus. like you with doom, i still play quakelive (it's q3 really) and i will most likely buy it even though this time he's not involved with production of the game. paradoxically, that may be a good thing if previous history is our guide, as i'm really not interested in single player games.

p.s. +1 for actual physical copies, it was even better getting them at computer swap meets :

I'll never forget playing multiplayer Doom via the DWANGO network on my 386 computer with a 14.4 modem. Hard to remember, but I think it was around $20 for 10 hours of play time back then. Man those were the days. Played in their national doom tourney too and made it far enough to the finals which took place in Vegas. I took third place, only losing to "Thresh" who wound up going on to win Carmack's Ferrari a couple years later.

Doom was still the best ever, nothing will ever replace it. Oh, AND STOP PRE ORDERING GAMES.

You guys realize we can still play old Doom? Just look up Zandronum. A lot of servers hosting fun doom mods, even MegaMan 8-bit Deathmatch , and Brutal Doom.

I still play to this day, and its a pretty big community (100-200 players still) at any given time.

Also @stupidkoala, you can't tell me not to pre-order things. Your talking to the man who had a pre-order for Duke Nukem back when Funcoland was still a thing (9 years).

Also @superhanssolo

Check this shit out, I got #103/300, had to pay an arm and two legs for it. Besides that I had to wait two years since they first announced it to when it started shipping.

Haha thanks, SHS.  I tell you, the guy was an absolute beast.  I basically breezed through all the local tournament rounds, then the regional rounds, etc.  Get to Vegas and won the opening rounds again easily, then ran into a complete buzzsaw with that guy.  I had never seen anything like it up until that point.  I was actually leading for much of the match (straight DM), but he ran off a string of like 10 straight kills and just pulled away at the end.  What made him so great was that he picked up my tendencies after just a few minutes of play, and I was totally screwed.  I don't remember that much about the match as it was around 20 years ago I think, but I just remember being totally frustrated and knowingly mentally I was beat when he started going on his kill run.

Fun times though, nothing will ever replace the Doom/Quake/early days of Counterstrike for me.  Must have played 8-10 hours a day back then, those days are loooooong gone now hah.  ;D

i'm glad you shared that experience with us, he was known for his map control and timing/movement. i've played a little bit of q3 duel but i sucked, mostly at movement and timing hehehe
i got pretty good at ctf/tdm/ca though and i've competed in a few online tourneys with "z clan". not the original scandinavian but the "original" australian, the second iteration of which went on to win a few aussie first places, however i was no longer a member. and a few other relatively reasonable outfits but whose names escape me atm. most memorable times i've had was playing rocket arena king of the hill (?/ i think) - 2v2 CA, winning team stays on. i still remember the occasional shakes and sweats i used to get at worst possible times - usually while versing some big scary names and scores tied. intense.
edit:
here's the line up when i was still a member (look under clan name) - http://www.4seasonsgaming ... viewtopic.php?t=1445
