Macros should be considered cheating

Macros, such as recoil reduction and fire rate modification give an unfair advantage to players who use them and shouldn't be allowed on the servers.

We are discussing this within the admins and how to to take an approach towards it.

It is against EA ToS to use "macros".

Well, macros are hacks in the strictest sense, as they are tools that help the player achieve higher performance via automated assistance.  Especially ones that reduce or eliminate recoil and/or modify the firing rate for weapons.

I agree with your statement Goat, but what we (admins) are faced with is, the difficulty of proving someone using macros.

There are also videos that show the macros in play by showing how the recoil is reduced significantly, as well as how the fire rate for the weapon is altered.

The playlist submitted by Lead0FF is now being reviewed for any macros. When I first reviewed it I was just looking for aimbots and walls not macros, which to be perfectly honest until this weekend I had no idea how they worked or that they were against EA's ToS. I don't even know how to properly scan for them in videos so at least for me it will be a learning process. Within our admin team we have individuals who are more experienced in this.

It's extremely hard to prove but as far as I'm concerned if you're using this it's cheating. I didn't even know there was such a program to change the parameters of how a weapon performs.

Angry_Cuban13, While it is admittedly hard to prove, I think those videos show pretty obvious changes in performance of the guns being used. As a regular player on the MIG servers, I would hope the admins will risk a false punishment (with room for appeals) over not taking any action. It's only a couple of people at the moment, but it could very well get worse. I've been playing (exclusively) on MIG servers for >2 years now. Hopefully we/you (the admins) can find a reasonable resolution.

Out of curiosity, which parts of these videos do people think show performance changes? Because I can guarantee that any of you could get the exact same performance.

macros are hard to detect, they're "adjustable" so whatever that people might pick up on, however unlikely, will be modified in a way that will make them harder to detect in the future. it's a form of cheating but at a much lower level than advanced hax like auto aim/wall hax/god knows what else - and paid for hax is an industry in it self..
and i don't even care if players are utilizing macros, firstly, it's the wrong kind of mentality, and secondly, i'm confident in my clicking ability as long as i'm using the correct weapon for the range. pistols are the only weapon class that makes me salty at times when i feel like i've been (out) macro'd (no, i don't use them). which is not that often.
in other words, if one can't aim, then macros will not make any noticeable difference to his game. consequently, if one knows how to read the game and position themselves with a correct weapon and only, lets say - an average aim, as well as many other factors beyond this topic, then it doesn't really make that much of an impact. another thing, it is possible to listen to the beat of the enemy gun - that pew pew pew beat, then matching the given beat, provided they are of the same (weapon) type. dear macro user, thank you very much for shortening my learning curve.
imo, given our limited resources i think we should concentrate on the more serious stuff.

Thought from an old beardy guy. Cheats are Cheats. Macros are no different. If they can be caught, ban them. If you can't catch them, well there are plenty out there that haven't been caught. Maybe even someone we play with. Only the cheaters really know nowadays.

Bottom line...a person is clean until they are proven not to be. Maybe they be unlucky someday and catch a 2 by 4 to the ol noggin. Karma

and even then good players ("good" in bad ways) were able to hide stuff like wallhax and they would dial in their accuracy  percentage to something believable, making it more difficult to detect.
then there was this guy that caught a cheater, recorded and posted it on quake forums. the only problem was that you could see in the recording that he himself was using an ogc bot. i kid you not.

as for the video proof, it's impossible for me to tell. he seems to be very consistent with his "beat", even in really close gunfights, like at 4:40, where for maximum damage one would normally do longer bursts due to how close the enemy is, yet he does the same perfect brt brt brt brt bursts. someone needs to run an audio spectral analysis and use it to figure out if his timing deviates through the game or if it stays the same, hence proving if macros are being used???

You have that flipped. Mid/long you want to fire slightly slower burst to maintain accuracy. Short/point blank you just want to put rounds down range. Generally speaking.

Many mouses and keyboards come with macros built right into the hardware now, a macro is just a simulated keystroke, You an get teh same effect by binding you fire to your scroll wheel, The fact that you can fire the gun faster with a macro or scroll wheel is a game bug. Limitations on the fire rate should be set in the game (think full auto weapons holding the mouse button vs clicking multiple times)
Now do i think its a hack ? No
Do i think its abuse of a bug ? Yes
Is that a banable offense ? thats up to the admins,

Now if some one does get banned for a macro (because its against the EA TOS) Remember that the seeding software is also a macro
