I just caught this video on Youtube and was wondering what the community here thinks?

If DICE/EA does take all of our customization away their game will DIE. Their servers will run rampant with hackers and TK'ers. I am very glad I did not waste my money.

What do we think? What do you think we think?

Anybody who preordered this garbage (or any other game), is getting exactly what they deserve.

I agree with you cuban, no admins means chaos! The only positive thing so far is it's not confirmed or denied yet, maybe it's all hearsay..

Twin, I can imagine a community such as this would not welcome this change, however, if there is anyone here in favor of this I'd like to hear their point of view, without asking the question I wouldn't have the opportunity to hear their side. Also, I agree with the pre-ordering statement, with how much can change between now and release you have to be a little crazy to just give your money away for something you may not enjoy, at least wait till they release info about custom servers.. Then again, after playing the beta, even if the server options stay the same, I would not waste my money on this game.

It is a well made video.

Just a thought. If all these rumors are true, and all the communities will be able to get are vanilla versions of control over servers. With E.A knowing this, is it not a possibility that they are going to purposely try to break the communities, and pc gaming?

Or maybe they have lost the fact that they where successful due to the money from of pc gamers.

If they decide to fuck over the PC community they will not only lose one of their largest demographics, they will also take a huge financial hit.

EA / DICE (and other Publishers / Developer studios) do stuff like this all the time. The internet never forgets / forgets easily both at the same time. After every game release, everyone always says "I am never pre-ordering again / buying game from developer xyz". What do they do? They pre-order from that developer when the next game is announced. This leads me to believe that the developers really have no reason to stop doing what they are doing. People will buy the games anyways.

If I understand correctly, Battlefield 1 game mechanics are very closely matched to ones in the Star Wars Battlefront (I don't own that game so can't say for sure). That game was not well received and had a small amount of maps. Everyone said "I'm never pre-ordering / buying an EA game again". What do they do? They break the world record for the most "liked" video on YouTube for a games release trailer with Battlefield 1...

It boils down to this. As a paying customer, you really don't have a choice anymore. If you want to play games, you will have to play shitty games lol.

I'll be the first to admit I have the Battlefield 1 Ultimate Edition pre-ordered (within the 1st 20 minutes of its announcement). I'm over the fact that I'm being screwed over. I just want to play the game and have fun.

^Sigh, absolutely hopeless. Pro Tip, they aren't running out of digital copies on launch day.

I've backed this game up in so many threads.....then this fucking shit shows up. I contacted EA and I've cancelled my pre-order. I can deal with everything else in this game, like I said, I actually enjoyed the play style...But no real server customization? FUCK...THAT!

Rush is only 24 players? Holy hell, that's going to feel empty.
Operations is 40 players? Meh, it's okay, but holy fuck, I love the cluster fuck of 64 players in servers. I want it to feel like a god damn battlefield. Isn't that why they named this game exactly that?!

I've been the person to play there games almost day 1 until Hardline. Since then, it seems like they're going backwards. Honestly, I loved the idea of a WW1 game, but what they're doing to it from behind the scenes...They've totally fucked this up.

Well, looks like server 10 is still my main home until they fucking fix this shit....if they ever do...

Right on Hero. If my memory serves correctly, didn't one of the Call of Duty games years ago (was it Modern Warfare 2?) start off with no custom servers, but the outcry was so huge they wound up adding them pretty quickly? I'm not 100% sure of that, but I vaguely remember something like that happening. Hopefully EA/DICE will do the same.

I don't care so much for this BF1 game as I'm not getting it regardless, I just don't want to see them go down this route for every BF game in the future!

Twin, that is correct. I believe that was MW2 that had the same issue, but there was this huge outcry of people, cancelling preorders and not buying day one, they finally said "Okay, we get it" and added it back in. And I agree, I don't want to see BF go down the same route every game. I could see MIg not even buying a server for BF1 if this is true. There would be almost no point to do so. We might not be the biggest group in the world, but we do have many people in our clan, and seeing that most people are not going to play, hopefully this speaks to them somehow. We're definitely not the only clan going to be like this. I've talked to the dozen or so people I personally play with on a daily basis, and all of us have now cancelled our preorder.

I also understand BF1 isn't going to be for everyone. Like I said before, I enjoyed the Alpha and Beta, I enjoyed the idea of the gameplay, but don't punish us because EA wants more money. Maybe in 2 or 3 years, the next BF will be better and we'll all be on board for that.

I watched a few youtubers talking about how they actually like this "Server Nerf" because they don't like the idea of procon and shit. They want the same playstyle every round, and no vote map option...Play on official servers that don't allow this. It's people like them that gets to actually talk with DICE that helps with these decisions. The voice of one drowns out the voice of many it seems. Fuck them...

...

No way, it's much more difficult to play a game with self healing, huds all over the screen showing you ammo count and health, mini maps telling you where everybody is, gigantic doritos all over the map which show you where the enemy is behind walls, and kill cams to give away the position of the guy who killed you so you can go get him on respawn.  Any other crutches I'm forgetting right now? ;D

Don't forget about no friendly fire. I'm just going to shoot through all my friends to kill you...It's definitely harder since you can't see exactly what you're aiming for.

What I think, is that EA wants to be able to exercise control over the playerbase, specifically with regards to forcing them on to new releases. If EA controls access to servers (if these rumors are true, and it looks like they are) by being the only distribution point, they can stop renting servers when their next Battlefield release is coming up.

EA management probably views BF4 servers as a threat to BF1 sales. By restricting access to server rentals, they can nudge people towards their new release.
