HaHa. I never thought of that! I think I am going to work on it to make it look more like a Fireplace! Thanks for the Idea!

Hello all -

I haven't been on the BF4 servers for a few weeks since we lost my home PC (SATA chipset is toast...MoBo is ca. 2009 ASUS M4N82 / AMD Phenom II build - so I can't complain - but I can see all my data on the HDDs whew ) - and I tried a quick "case swap" between my identical "home" and "Gaming" Coolermaster cases....Windows 7 won't boot however...(Intel vs AMD CPU - all the drivers are different etc)

Sooooo... my lovely 'CFO' gave me greenlight to build new PC ("gaming" rig gets the upgrades - home pc gets "sloppy seconds" -- ie guts of current "gaming" rig :-) )

New Gaming Build:

MB: ASUS TUF X299 MARK I LGA2066 DDR4 M.2 USB 3.1 DUAL LAN X299 ATX
CPU: Intel Core i5-7640X Processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GAMING REV 2.0 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5
SSD: Samsung 960 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (WIN10/Boot)
HDD: 2x WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s (Games / Storage)
Cooling: Corsair CW-9060025-WW Hydro Series, H100i v2, 240mm Radiator, Dual 120mm
OS: WIN 10 Professional USB
Case: Coolermaster Stacker 830
Power: Thermaltake 850W

Pics & "home" PC (ie previous gaming pc) to follow when I get things up & going again...'Christmas' is on Thursday...Maybe "first bullets" late Thurs / early Fri?!?

Cheers & hope to be back around soon!

QuoteOK - here's some pics..It is assembled (all-nighter last nite) - posted on first power up (woohoo!)   WIN10 64 bit Pro install in @ 30 mins from USB...In process of downloading a fresh BF4 install off Origin...No game experience - yet - but I will tell you this is the fastest PC I've ever had:  from power button to WIN10 desktop (including 10-char login) in @ 25 seconds...Apps open 'instantly'...

Hardware Recap:

MB:         ASUS TUF X299 MARK I LGA2066 DDR4 M.2 USB 3.1 DUAL LAN X299 ATX
CPU:       Intel Core i5-7640X Processor
Memory:  Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15
GPU:       GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GAMING REV 2.0 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5
SSD:       Samsung 960 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (WIN10/Boot)
HDD:       2x WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s (Games / Storage)
Cooling:  Corsair CW-9060025-WW Hydro Series, H100i v2, 240mm Radiator, Dual 120mm
OS:         WIN 10 Professional USB
Case:      Coolermaster Stacker 830
Power:    Thermaltake 850W

Here's a link to a dropbox folder of intermediate assembly steps....

Trashmans' Intel Core X - X299 Build

One 'problem' I had using the @ 15 year old CoolerMaster Stacker 830 Case is that the modern full ATX case layout has changed - so I opted to put the Corsair H100v2 Radiator and fans on the bottom of the case...To facilitate airflow - I constructed a small platform with casters - and a cutout for the air to exhaust...

Both the ASUS X299 TUF MoBo and the Gigabyte Geforce 1060 GPU have some pretty cool LED displays....haven't even mucked with tweaking them yet....

Can't wait to see this on BF with video settings cranked...probably still won't fix my aim

Got an RTX 2080 ti today, fan boi status confirmed. Is it worth it? I have to say at 3440x1440 that's a resounding "NO". I really think this is strictly a 4k card. It's also a HUGE card, takes up three spaces (along with three thumb screws to hold it in lol). I might invest in one of those "benches" too, as it's heavy as hell and I don't want the weight on the board constantly.

Anyway, I'll likely keep it for my next PC build this coming Spring. Glad I got one of these and not an FE card. Ugh, and looking at that pic I will be dusting the computer this weekend lol.
